District 12's English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum is aligned to the Illinois Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Our staff works hard to support students in meeting grade level expectations while also delivering interventions and enrichment to students with diverse learning needs. You can learn more about each grade level's state standards at http://www.corestandards.org/ELA-Literacy/
We use Benchmark Advance (K-5) and Study Sync (6-8) as our core resources for ELA instruction. Our teachers have access to many supplemental resources, such as BrainPop, IXL, Spelling City and Reading A-Z/RAZ to help support our ELA curriculum. Our first grade students (print) and third grade students (cursive) use Zaner-Bloser as a core handwriting curriculum. District 12 uses iReady's benchmark assessment to identify areas of strength and need in reading and writing and to assign students to a variety of intervention and enrichment opportunities.
