D12 provides services for Limited English Proficient (LEP) students with appropriate support in order for them to become proficient in English. It is our goal for students to achieve high academic standards in all content areas and be successful socially and emotionally. If a language other than English is spoken in the home, students from kindergarten through grade eight are assessed using and English Language screener. If the students qualify for English language support, parents/guardians are notified in writing. D12 offers two levels of programming.
Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE)
This program is offered to students when there are 20 or more limited English proficient students with a common native language in one school. Students receive native language support as needed from a properly licensed teacher.
Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI)
This program is offered to students when there are fewer than 20 students in a school with a common native language. Students receive English as a Second Language support from a properly licensed teacher.
