District 12 is focusing some of this year's professional development on fully aligning our curriculum with the new Illinois Social Science Standards. You can learn more about each grade level's state standards at https://www.isbe.net/Pages/Social-Science.aspx
Our teachers are learning what these standards mean by shifting our Social Science instruction to one designed for student inquiry. The Civics standards will give our students exciting opportunities for hands-on experiences. Our curriculum resource for grades 6-8 is based on TCI's Social Studies Alive while our K-5 grades are working on creating integrated units of study aligned with the IL Social Science standards.
